taipei december 2008 - day 3

places: Northern Taipei City (Beitou and Shilin) and Danshui (Fisherman's Wharf, Lover Bridge)

first stop was to Beitou, Xinbeitou to be exact. There are a number of hot spring resort/hotels in the area. There's even steaming spring water flowing along the side of some roads. Notably, the water is rather sulfuric for Beitou's hot springs.

took S25 to the hot spring resorts area. Do check with the driver when boarding, to confirm the direction of travel. We took the wrong direction and went 2 stations backwards, at Qiyan. The best is to board at the bus stand outside Qiyan station, to prevent confusion.

zh, keong and me chose the private hot spring package, NTD2900 for the whole thing. It looked like a hotel room, but with 2 sections - 1st section is a small living room with sofa, etc. 2nd section is the enjoyment section, 2 tubs plus japanese styled bathing facilities.

the other group opted for hot spring cum massage, NTD3950/SGD188 each! Lasted roughly 2 hours.

Beitou first, Danshui next

next stop was to Danshui. On the outside, the station looked like our local Chinese Garden station. Took a long winding ride on 26 to the Fisherman's Wharf.

She was at Danshui coincidentally

The nice coast of Danshui River

Fisherman's Wharf - 漁人碼頭

The seaview at the wharf

Boardwalk - too chilling to stroll

Strong winds, the camera kept going off balance

Lover Bridge

then we went downwards to Shilin Night Market. Tried lotsa finger food, browsed their Bugis Street equivalent. But theirs is 3-4x much bigger.

A trip to Taiwan is incomplete without this visit

Orh jian

Chou Tofu

This stall - recommended, especially for beef eaters
