housekeeping again

last night i threw out many stuff - a box that had my Cambridge Megaworks 250d until i took the latter out and put it onto my study table. Although empty it stayed literally by my side (yes, beside my chair) for months.

as i had too many old peripheral cards such as 56k modems, 10mbps network cards, VGA cards etc i too threw them away. But for memories sake i recorded my last glance of them:

Aztech ISA 33.6k modem with sound card - REAL legacy stuff

Aztech 56k modem - kept disconnecting

This version was better because it's a hardware based 56k modem (extra chip)

3Com 3C509B 10mbps ISA network card. Years old too

Hercules FDX8500LE card - repaired but still couldn't work

This board was meant for Pentium/Pentium MMX chips

I dropped the above onto the floor - unrecoverable read errors. sigh

ok, enough of these nerdy looking stuff.

i was again late for CS2250 discussion in school, because by the time i did my housekeeping, sorted my personal finance, idle here and there (i love to 'tu') it was 4am. Meeting was impossible at 9am =x Luckily Jodi was later than me... hehe.

met up 3 girls for dinner. They went shopping, which i didn't go. Since its time for them to exercise their legs... lolz. We went simlim to get Jac's hard drive, then off we went to MOF for dinner.

I had this ala carte item called Seafood Toji. Lunch was rather filling

Vicky had some bento set. Sorry couldn't recall =x

Kakiage set for Celeste. Forgot to take Jac's curry rice =x

Fret not, Vicky came to the rescue.

Our desserts - shiratama something and kakigori mango
Vicky lit up when she saw the word"SLIMMING" listed as a benefit =x

Cam whores #1

Cam whores #2

received news from Trina that Peisze's brother passed away due to suicide. This is devastating for sure, for her as the eldest sister. Should be going across the causeway to meet her up. Hope she's taking the loss with strength.

OOOo you'll be pumping Ovaltine!

the GIRLY MAN indian video has been demo-ed to HK and the pack just now.

the response was overwhelming; massive laughs in the otherwise quiet Coffee Club at Millenia.

the dance strokes plus the lyrics cracked everyone up. lolz...

in case whoever is not feeling sick of it click here.

"Gosh my old calculator ain't got no bow...." *omg*

JH wanted to bring his gal here. Quite a mature audience though...

Finally got to try this sinful pie.

back in school i attended the SAP talk with steve. I'm quite interested to go for the certification, however not this semester; as the training period fell in nicely (unfortunately) with my holiday. I'm worried that by the next summer, everyone will be fighting for the already limited places - my CAP will not be strong enough to bargain for a place. Anyway i'm thinking quite far away, so keep my fingers crossed again.

the lure of a fat pay cheque (in the tune of >$5,000) and the projection of 260% growth of SAP worldwide are going to attract any students who are more interested in earning more as SAP related consultants etc. But i'm always the cautious one who believes that real interest in the business domain will be the sole survivors in this specialized enterprise market, considering that the economy will not be at its best in few years time. The sole desire to earn will only become a useless quest to a knowledge worker today and tomorrow.

saw valentino's post in ting's blog. He loves making fun of people, especially me. Wow, i've not met him for years and he is already so free exercising his weird sense of humour on me. I shall practise the saying of "not feeding the troll" and not reply for the time being. sheesh.

Janice 衛蘭 - 大哥

i have a REALLY nice song to recommend everyone!

cantonese - can a girl translate in chinese? Vicky? hehe...

my fish died :(

first and foremost i have to report the death of my resident algae eater, Mr SAE (Siamese Algae Eater). It was when i was feeding my fishes, then realised he (maybe a she, not too sure) didn't appear to grab the food, which he would normally do. Even if he didn't, he would reappear after a day or two.

then i searched the corners of the tank, he was nowhere to be found.

i searched the area in front of the tank, nothing either. Finally popped my head to the rear of the tank and found a dried corpse :(

File picture - this isn't Mr SAE 2007, but Mr SAE 2003.

Back in 2003 i bought a nice killifish, he was forever smiling. lolz...

then at the toilet i found a xiao-qiang. Drowned it instantly. Argh.

today was quite a slacking day - i was late for CS3265 meeting, which i'm again so paiseh for - they were all waiting for me to issue orders. So the next 1 hour we discussed about the report sections; facilitated whatever i can and we went down to Megabites for a meal. Remember Huiming was mentioning it in her blog, wondering whether this is the one.

Science converted a lobby and passageway into a mini cafe selling western food

Not bad for $4.50. But BJ takes the honour though.

while waiting for 97 at the dover bus stop, i met this particular girl.. she attracts me because she's rather cheerful whenever i saw her in the labs. Of course, she's really my type. She was standing nearby, but went in front of me, to sit at a chair facing the other way (facing me directly). Funny i thought; since the rest of the chairs were empty. Actually should have went up and get to know her, but.... shy lah. It's the same thing when Kelvin tried to introduce me to Tingli. No movements till now. Can someone give me thicker skin to approach a girl i want to know and ask for her number? alamak....*slap forehead*

at NYP school is starting next week; i can observe a heightened atmosphere - some staff went up to my manager to request these and that. Level 6 had some last minute shockers (yes, some workers literally got shocked), but its well on the way for usage next week. Heard that there were some timetable hiccups, so some peeps might have to reprint their timetable.

from my understanding it's kinda inevitable, since staff and students of SIT(EI) are joining our block this semester onwards. There will surely be some mayhem due to unfamiliarity in the first 4 weeks, so i shall keep my fingers crossed. Need to ask Choo how to operate and troubleshoot the new touch screen for the LTs, so i won't be so paiseh when i'm down there with hundreds of peeps looking =x

my helpdesk duties are greatly cut down though. Planning to keep it this way, at least until after 15 nov.

SE k850i finally arrived on our shores - the key differences from k800/810i are the 5mp camera (plus the automatic lens cover), directional keys being merged into a ring surrounding '2' and '5', touch-sensitive top row keys, and side lighting (blue and green).

the price is fantastic as well. iPosh and Mobilesquare are selling it for exactly $850.

i'm planning to get it, but not at this ridiculous price. Will probably go for it when it's nearby the $600 mark.

anybody wants to takeover my U600 white? The screen protector has been on since day 1, so the condition is somewhat 9.5/10. 0.5 for the age.

Can you sense the aura? =)

lagging in school

has been some time i didn't really blog. Let's see...

recently i have been procrastinating some stuff. Can't look forward to see how i will 'fare' in the assignments ahead... *slap forehead*

on tuesday i had 3 project discussions, from morning till night.

the morning discussion was Cs3265. The situation is really bleak, because it's difficult to imagine from nothing to a full report in 11 days. Then the Ms Mamata sprang a surprise during the tutorial by checking our progress... we tried our best to throw some smoke and thunderflashes =x

CS2250 was fine, but we had a major confusion which we ended up debating constructively =) Jodi was so disillusioned with studies, wanted to leave school. I was like her last year, but mine was due to relationship problems. Told her to hang on, because things will just settle down by itself...

for our biggest project we spent hours drawing 3 diagrams, and coincidentally CH dropped by COM1 at around 9pm and saw us working. The report portion seems to be okay, so what the group really need to do is to quickly catch on with coding. Like steve said, cannot be complacent ok!!

after CH left, we went for dinner. Initially we wanted to go Buona Vista for the XO fish head bee hoon, but 96 came and steve suggested Botak Jones at Clementi 325. On the bus the topic was on the magic CAP score. Zw and i just laughed out loud when i looked at him. He knew what i was going to say. lolz...

i have been quite crazy about the indian spoof videos i mentioned in the last few posts. To the point of humming the tunes... ewww. Kelvin and zw were telling me to stop it. Especially zw because he hates the NEL station "NE7" =x

my server is now up, for about 14 hours already.

previously, the RAID 1 configuration didn't help, because the faulty controller ended up corrupting both mirrored hard disk drives. Luckily only the system files got damaged; i was able to recover the more important files. After popping in my spare drives, i still hit roadblocks - the DHCP server couldn't activate and hung the system, after another reformatting the DHCP was ok but Apache and Tomcat couldn't serve my JSPs properly. In the end i found Zonealarm Pro to be the culprit, and removed it. That application caused me hours of headache and hard resets. Argh...

jun got a U600 sapphire blue, so i have 3 friends altogether that are using the same phone. I thought of getting the microSD card as her birthday pressie, since it's practical and doesn't invite any misunderstandings that way. But even that, wasn't appropriate. Asked why, she didn't want to explain. The same old her. Maybe she wants me to remember there's now a line between us. Or don't want people to comment. I'm not interested to make guesses too. Just forget it; i'm already contented that we are talking as friends.

toiling (re)starts

just to report, it's week 8 of this semester 1 for AY 07/08 .

my deadlines are looming -
- 22 oct: CS3265 report
- 25 oct: CS3214 system analysis report
- 2 nov: CS2250 video submission
- 14 nov: GEK1531 final test (no exams yipeeee)
- 15 nov: CS3214 final system release

- 22 nov: my birthday (right smack in the study week AGAIN)
- 27 nov (evening): exam
- 28 nov (morning): exam
*end of agony*

my days ahead until the final system release will be more painful than what happened during the recess week. How to study for GEK1531, i wonder too. =(

had a chat with Chia over dinner just now. He was concerned for my box-office, which i had no time and motivation to do anything to it. The feeling simply sucks when a person is treated like a dead person - everything goes into a coffin. Shucks, enough of this. Still very angry with certain people. But i'm just a small fry that no one will see. Just wish to steer clear and far away from these self-centered minds.

i was thinking aloud my plans to him for my remaining year in NYP. Since i have been spending almost 2 years with deep immersion in lab setup/maintenance, it's high time i do some programming and be much less involved in the labs.

by the next week i will be proposing to my manager that i roll out the improved inventory system coded by Reyas in december, followed by really taking on the role as programmer for eHelpdesk application enhancement until i graduate from NUS in 2008.

but then he has also said - when people think of setting up labs, they think of me. It was a different impression for Reyas, so he has been able to concentrate on programming all these while. The easiest way out is managerial support for my tasks, provided i really produce results (which i will given the state of my box-office now).

now i understand why he has been able to withstand some bad press but the management still stood by his side - there is a certain positive disposition he has displayed in his working attitude and treatment towards colleagues. What is probably missing is the extra consideration towards 'customers' at the helpdesk, that's all.

that being said, i'm of the belief that its not only technical knowledge that determines a person's competency. Many other small yet superficial factors apply, even such as how a person organizes his/her table and furnishing, or the attitude towards similar rank-and-file colleagues or 'customers' at work - tells volumes about his/her management of every single matter.

i admit i'm a little messy though =x

anyway i will stop talking about my work here. For the ex-nypians the fastfood centre and foodcourt has been renovating for weeks already. Mac just re-opened.

Much brighter

Grinning Gecko and Splash 'n' Decker are still here

Koufu is still not ready.
Sad to see the old furnishing go - it has been there since my time

阿杜 - 差一点

after this song was made a parody earlier on, let me present to you the actual song. Please sit back and listen. To the meaning.

misc tasks

today was another restless day. As usual my nieces and nephew came, so i shown some Doraemon snippets from Youtube. Quite fun and entertaining actually to have them here. I became more attentive than them =x

doraemon was my favourite (one and only) during my childhood. Remember buying lots of doraemon comic books and reading the graphics because i couldn't understand the words. Even as i started learning stuff in primary school, i didn't bother to read the words because it became an acquired habit =x

felt a bit of headache but still went to cwp. Let's see the stuff i done:

- got my favourite drink, mac's ilt for my headache *brainfreeze*
- topped up mum's ezlink
- purchased popular card using citi clear card's voucher, for sis to buy assessment books
- laminated bro's diploma (FINALLY!)
- bought 3M filtrete, osram light bulb for toilet and batteries for mouse
- haircut

my iron caused a short circuit and subsequently my house blacked out thrice. And now my server's hard disks are corrupted - unable to boot into Windows anymore. =( going to plug in my emergency hard disk and reinstall next weekend... sigh.

after dinner, did some chemical cleaning to my aircon (ting mine is also a Mitsubishi STARMEX ok!!) before fitting on the 3M filtrete.

booked 7 nights of stay with Ah Shan Hostel through Paypal! HKD350/night for a triple room ensuite (private br)! =)

went down a while to meet Eze and Gy. Talked about my HK planning - left with the Lamma, Shenzhen and Macau portions to plan!

i saw a missed call when i came back. She called... but too late to return that call.

before signing off, wenqun and ting - this is for both of you gambling couple!!! =x remember to watch till the end!

and for your indian slang.

here's MORE of the indian parody if any peeps want. My eyes are tearing... omg -.-"
